Quick Tips For Garage Remodeling

So the kids have grown and you want to turn the garage into a man-cave? Or are the kids becoming teenagers and you want to make them a hang-out spot so you can watch them? Or do you need a place for your hobbies? More efficient storage? An extra room? Answering yes to any of these questions can result in needing to remodel your garage. There are a few things to remember:

First, have a plan in mind. Don’t simply think this is going to happen on its own, or will happen without a plan. Garages are spaces designed for cars and storage of inanimate objects, like tools and old clothes. Doing anything else with them requires planning.

Second, remember the outside walls of the garage generally are not insulated as well as the inside walls. Walls to the outside, that don’t border on living areas, aren’t that well insulated, and if you plan to have someone spend any amount of time in the garage, this needs to be corrected.

Third, ventilation is key. Whatever you plan to do in the garage, generally the only ventilation planned in the garage is opening the garage door, or maybe a side door. If you are going to do something that needs ventilation, or heating, or cooling, you are going to have to make a plan for that as well.

There are many more things to consider when remodeling a garage, this is only intended to be a starting point.
